Donald Trump sebelum muncul sebagai calon Presiden Amerika adalah seorang tokoh korporat dan billionair. Ketokohannya jarang dikaitkan dengan kepimpinan politik tetapi dikenali sebagai selebriti dalam dunia hiburan program realiti 'The Apprentice'.

Peribadi Donald Trump sering mengundang kontraversi khususnya dakwaan gangguan seksual terhadap wanita dan sikap sexistnya. Selain itu, dalam serangan kempen Hillary terhadap Trump, beliau juga dituduh mengelak cukai dan menindas pekerjanya.

Namun di sebalik kemunculan Trump sebagai 'manusia paling berkuasa di dunia' masyarakat global masih tertanya-tanya bagaimana Trump boleh menang?

Untuk menjawab soalan itu, yang lebih utama diajukan ialah bagaimana Hillary Clinton boleh kalah? Soalan ini relevan kerana tumpuan media dan pembanci ialah kepada Hillary sebagai calon presiden wanita pertama yang berpengalaman manakala Trump adalah calon tidak berpengalaman dan jahil tentang dasar luar negara dan sebagainya.

Hillary lebih tertumpu kepada mahu menjadi wanita pertama sebagai Presiden Amerika dan kerana itu dilihat sebagai ingin mencapai rekod peribadi daripada menggarap isu yang lebih menyinggung kehidupan harian para pengundinya.

Strategi kempen Trump melebarkan sikap anti-establishment dengan retorik Amerika yang melihat ke dalam serta menimbulkan ketakutan terhadap 'orang luar' dari pendatang yang 'mengancam' gaya hidup rakyat Amerika dan kenikmatan Amerika selama ini. Ketakutan ini agak menarik minat kelompok atasan 'white' dan pengundi konservatif.
Memikirkan apa yang dijanjikan oleh Trump dalam dasar luarnya sudah cukup membimbangkan masyarakat dunia khususnya negara Latin Amerika dan negara Islam. Serangan Trump kepada 'pendatang' Mexico/negara Latin lain dan sikap prejudisnya kepada Muslim yang perlu 'penapisan keselamatan' demi memerangi 'home-ground terrorism' mewajarkan kerisauan ini..MD
